Five characters are going on a search for the core of themselves. A quest characterized by resistance, pain, idealism, hope, fighting spirit and self-sacrifice. In the eyes of choreographer Joost Vrouenraets, the person who enters into that fight is a contemporary hero: Charlie. But heroism is not only required for the 'inner world'. Also in society, Charlie is fighting with an increasing loss of identity.

'Charlie' was inspired by contemporary Asian pop culture and fight films such as Kill Bill. In his choreography, Joost Vrouenraets uses movements from the martial arts to create a new dance language. The tension between the characters as superheroes versus the characters as real vulnerable people is the common thread in this explosive and emotional performance. The dance language of Vrouenraets is masterly, emotional and rich in images. His work stems from a spiritual longing for beauty, rawness and alienation.
